Well the sunrise gleams bright over the Wheatland
And the big Living Sky leads on for miles
And not a thing to cross my mind in the stillness so sublime
That could turn me away from that Old Prairie Road

It wasn’t just a way back home, it was a way of life
Everything I ever was or thought I could become
Just an old gravel road heading southbound
And a turnoff sign, “head East on Hwy 1”

When I hit the open road back in ’14
And I took that ol’ Trans Am out in the Sun
And when my dad gave me the keys to her before I left all on my own
He said, “Don’t you worry son, I’ll be here when you get home.”

And I can still hear his voice, I can still see his face
The depth of a father’s love - held strong for his son
And he kept his word true from all those years ago
When I came back home a-rolling on Hwy 1

Well the highway led on and my love was growing strong
As I drove on my way back to you
And I had brought the ring with me, to ask if you’d agree
And you were saying ‘yes’ as I got down on my knee

I don’t know where the road will go, I don’t know what the future holds
I guess we’ll find a way when all is said and done
